Is space travel nothing but a childhood fantasy or a real possibility in the near future
Desire to travel out of Earth’s orbit isn’t new. However, so far it has been reserved for people trained professionally to do so! However, nowadays we are seeing more and more people and especially rich people who are continually talking about space travel. Some are just dreaming, some have already begun making plans to purchase land and colonize other planets when life on Earth becomes impossible. Or maybe before! Some, like Michael Blum, are creating projects to make all this possible.
Experienced Space Traveler
Blum says that he is dreaming about space travel since he was a 5-year-old boy in Hong Kong. After he saw Neil Armstrong stepping foot on the Moon, according to t his own words, the only thing he wanted to become was an astronaut. Life took him later in a different direction as he didn’t study Aeronautics or anything similar but Economics. This, however, turned out as a good choice because it opens up a world of possibilities in which he could have enough money, time, and energy to start realizing his dream.
After the failure with Virgin Galactic, he created his own space tourism company called Hedgeye. The company’s goal was to make their spacecraft and make sure they will be able to fly to space. However, Blum didn’t count on all obstacles he could potentially encounter. The first that he ran was that the investment exceeds greatly all of his expectations. Convinced that the project will work and that space travel will be possible Blum gave a green light for the ticket sale. Bunch of other rich people eager to start exploring distant worlds made investments by buying the tickets. But Blum overestimated his and the company’s capacities and thus failed to meet the main demand of his clients – to fly! As the project ran into financial trouble, everything was delayed which provoked anger in clients who requested reimbursement of their money. As the money wasn’t being returned, they pressed charges against Blum and Hedgeye which ultimately led to the bankruptcy of the company.
